wool. silk. resistance!!!

Last week, I went to the opening of the new exhibition at the MUSEUM FÜR ANGEWANDTE KUNST in Frankfurt. It’s titled “Wool. Silk. Resistance.” and presents stunning artworks created with or on rugs, carpets, and tapestries. It’s the first time in 45 years that the museum has dedicated an exhibition exclusively to this art form.
Beyond traditional Western perspectives, the exhibition explores carpets and textiles as mediums of expression and asks how textiles can become a form of resistance. Through the work of contemporary international artists, these materials are presented as open and constantly evolving — carrying stories of identity, resilience, and social change.
Rather than focusing on style or history alone, the exhibition highlights how textile art can express both political and personal resistance — against power structures, discrimination, trauma, or environmental destruction — turning soft materials into powerful emotional statements.
I can highly recommend visiting this exhibition, as it is incredibly impressive not only from a craftsmanship perspective but also aesthetically and conceptually. It runs until the end of May 2026.

"i just f*cking love nostalgia"
